Flowers in the Rain Featuring Ananya, Nikchira and Anupama
“What is it about storms that make you feel so alive?” She started out of her reverie and looked rather displeased about it. The half-smile that played with the corners of her mouth fell into a, not unattractive pink “O”. Her eyes narrowed as she measured whether the question deserved an answer, and deliberately filtered out the annoyance as she turned to regard him. He was always asking things like this.
“Do you vlog?”
“No”
“Why not?”
“I donno. It’s sort of like wearing a see-through skirt with no petticoat underneath. I makes me feel so revealed. And everybody seems to love doing it. So weird. I guess there’s an exhibitionist in everyone of us.”
“Do you always have such strange thoughts?”
“Do you ever say anything that’s not a question?”
“Storms”, she began and stretched her arms out lazily, “what about them? Storms? I love the distant thunder that announces that it’s bringing a storm along.” “Distant thunder? What distant thunder? What about distant thunder?” he asked, uncertainly. Sometimes he thought she was putting him on. What was the big deal about a development in weather anyway!?
“Distant thunder! That soft shudder in the sky that slowly but surely grows louder. It means that the sky is longing to do wicked things to the earth. When the sky looks at the earth through half closed lids and its heart rumbles with want. That’s distant thunder.”
“But why do they make you feel so alive?”She looked at him indulgently and tried to distract him by beckoning him close. She took his outstretched hands and blanketed her cheek with his palm.
Oh, but how to put in words, what flowers feel when they bloom to life after a storm?
